Targeted Community/People:

Community-Chowfaldandi and Khuruskul Union of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Upazila People-Marginalized Women, Persons with Disabilities, Climate Refugees, Ethnic Minorities (Rakhine) and Climatically Vulnerable Communities.

Project Introduction:

From December 2022 PHALS (Program for Helpless And Lagged Society) is being implementing “Resilience Strengthening of Vulnerable Populations in Northern, Western and Eastern Bangladesh through a Network Approach of 5 Partner Organizations” project. An alternative Livelihood Training Center run by the local non-governmental organization PHALS started a market demand based hand and sewing training program as a means of alternative livelihood for sheltered climate refugee women under the pilot project of Khuruskul government special shelter project and Chowfaldandi union in collaboration with the international organization Malteser International. At present, in the first phase 210 women in 8 Self Reliant Group (SRG) are engaged in making products after training in various trades as follows: Embroidery-52, Tailoring- 50, Block-Batik-49, Handicraft-49 and Handloom-10

Project Objectives:

Vulnerability of vulnerable, marginalized, rural riverine and coastal communities is reduced through improved socioeconomic conditions and emergency preparedness.

Project Activities:

o Group formation (Self Reliant Group-SRG, Apex Body) & establish savings

o Establish Resource Center at Khuruskul and Chowfaldandi

Project Achievements:

o 151 beneficiaries sold out product at an amount 142,285 Tk.

o DC visit and commitment for display center at tourist zone
