On February 26, 2025, PHALS successfully provided essential cash support to vulnerable households in Cox’s Bazar Sadar (40 recipients) and Pekua Upazila (52 recipients) through mobile banking. This initiative was implemented under the HOIFA ToGETHER 2.0 project, with generous support from Malteser International and funding from GFFO. The cash assistance aimed to empower families by enhancing their financial resilience and addressing immediate needs, ensuring they can sustain their livelihoods with dignity. By leveraging mobile banking, the distribution process was efficient, secure, and accessible, reducing logistical challenges and promoting financial inclusion among marginalized communities. This intervention reflects PHALS' ongoing commitment to supporting disaster-affected and vulnerable populations, fostering economic stability, and strengthening community well-being in Cox’s Bazar.

On January 28, 2025, PHALS (Program for Helpless and Lagged Society) took a heartfelt step toward supporting vulnerable individuals by distributing 500 high-quality winter blankets across three unions—Chowfoldondi, Varuwakhali, and Pourasava/Municipality of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Upazila.The distribution event, held at the PHALS Complex Premises, was graced by the esteemed presence of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and the PHALS Executive Director. Both dignitaries delivered inspiring speeches, emphasizing the power of community-driven initiatives in uplifting those in need. Beyond simply providing warmth, PHALS ensured that the blankets were of standard and high quality—prioritizing durability and enhanced insulation to offer lasting comfort. This initiative underscores PHALS’ unwavering commitment to quality over quantity, ensuring that each recipient benefits not just in the short term but well into the future. To uphold transparency and accountability, PHALS also set up a Community Feedback and Response Mechanism (CFRM) desk at the distribution site. This allowed community members to voice their feedback and concerns, reinforcing PHALS’ dedication to an inclusive and responsive humanitarian approach.

On January 21, 2025, PHALS (Program for Helpless and Lagged Society) successfully distributed 500 winter blankets to vulnerable individuals across three unions—Shilkhali, Mognama, and Pekua Sadar—within Pekua Upazila. The event took place at the Pekua Upazila Nirbahi Parishad Hall room, where the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and PHALS Executive Director graced the occasion. The UNO and PHALS Executive Director delivered an insightful speech emphasizing the importance of community-focused support initiatives. This initiative aimed to provide warmth and comfort to those most affected by the harsh winter conditions. To ensure transparency and accountability, PHALS set up a Community Feedback and Response Mechanism (CFRM) desk at the distribution site. This allowed community members to share their feedback or raise concerns during the event, ensuring their voices were heard and acted upon. In alignment with its core values, PHALS prioritized quality over quantity by providing premium-grade blankets that offered durability and enhanced warmth. The organization firmly believes that investing in high-quality resources meets immediate needs and ensures long-term satisfaction and utility for the recipients.

oday PHALS team celebrated the "Tarunner Utsob 2025 (Youth Festival 2025)" program with a features of Taekwondo demonstration, Badminton competition followed by Winter pitha festival with the participation of children residing at the PHALS Bani Academy.

PHALS commenced the implementation of the HOIFA intervention on December 15, 2024, marking a pivotal initiative to address the needs of vulnerable communities. As part of the intervention, PHALS developed a robust needs assessment questionnaire. To ensure its relevance and effectiveness, the questionnaire was shared with the Community Participation Unit (CPU) for refinement, incorporating feedback to address community-specific requirements. The needs assessment was conducted using KOBO Toolbox, a digital platform designed to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of data collection. To enable the effective use of this tool, an intensive training session was held on December 26, 2024, at the PHALS Training Center under the HOIFA TOGETHER 2.0 project. This session trained all six volunteers and two field officers, equipping them with the skills needed to conduct digital surveys, validate data authenticity, and streamline data submission processes to PHALS authorities. Following the training, the volunteers began the needs assessment process, focusing on the disaster-prone areas of Pekua Upazila and Cox’s Bazar Sadar in Cox’s Bazar District. On January 7, 2025, the PHALS team conducted a monitoring visit to Pekua Upazila to assess the progress of the intervention. The visit included three specific areas: Shorkari Ghuna in Pekua Sadar, Lomba Mura in Shikhali Union, and Jalia Para in Mognama Union. During the visit, the PHALS team closely observed the volunteers’ interactions with beneficiaries, their communication approaches, and their ability to address community needs effectively. This meticulous monitoring visit reaffirmed PHALS’s dedication to fostering strong community connections and ensuring the highest standards of implementation throughout the HOIFA intervention. Today PHALS team observed "International Climate Action Day 2024" with It's project partners in Khuruskul Union of Cox’s Bazar Sadar upazila. Which was followed by rally, Community discussion and Climate Champion award. This year award goes to 3 climate champions, Champions are Mr. Showkat Osman from Chowfaldandi, Mr.Mohammad Hossain and Mr.Mohammad Shah Newaz from Khuruskul Union. Ongoing activities are PHALS BMZ-PT project.

Three days long Handicrafts, Hand made Apparels & Handloom products display and sell fair of Climate displaced and Sea depend coastal ethnic women started today at Cox’s Bazar infront of Abu centre Shopping centre . Under Pilot project of PHALS BMZ-PT, 210 project partner/ beneficiaries involved in this Alternative livelihood means...Senior Vice President of Cox’s Bazar Women Chamber Ms.Monwar Parvin and Director of CBCCI Mr.Azmol Huda along with PHALS Honorary Executive Director Abu Murshed Chowdhury inaugurated the Fair.

PHALS team handed over 500 Dry food pack to Eidgaon and Pekua upazila UNO for recent flood affected people,which distributed to different flood affected union by local volunteers.

On 22 October, 2023 International day of Climate action 2023 observed by PHALS team along with project partners in khuruskul under BMZ-PT project. A post rally discussion was also held in govt.Ashroyon prokolpo premises . Wherein Mr.Aktar ward Kamal Councillor of Cox’s Bazar Powrashava graced the event as chief guest.

Under Together project HOIFA intervention, PHALS team conducting School base DRR and climate change awareness programme in Santmartin Island under Teknaf upazila . As a part of programme today art competition on climate change impact also being held in Jinjira govt.primary school. Later students being awarded in presence local govt.leaders, Teachers and PHALS’s officials.

PHALS team specially field supervisors are passing busy time for final need assessment in Sabrang Union under Teknaf upazila for HOIFA implementation under Together project..

On 16 October, DRR Responsive Community Volunteer Group Formed under BMZ project at Khuruskul Ashraiyan Prokalpo, Khurushkul suppported by Malteser International.

In Emergency response PHALS team try to reach to the Affected people, when it is a bit difficult to reach. Recent flood in Chakoria and Pekua upazila. Malteser International has supported PHALS in this great work.

Due to heavy rains, the PHAALS Emergency Response Team has prepared 1000 dry food package for the flood affected people of different unions of Chakria and Pekua upazilas of Cox’s Bazar district.

Study finding sharing workshop on “Climate change adaptation for coastal community”at Cox’s Bazar held. With the cooperation of Malteser International. today PHALS organised a study report sharing event on subject issue at Cox’s Bazar Sadar upazila Conference hall. Study team from Institute of Disaster Management & Vulnerability studies of Dhaka University Conducted the study in Cox’s Bazar Sadar upazila, specially on Khurushkul and Chowfuldandy Unions,working area of PHALS BMZ project. Concern Union Parishad chairman, Government officials from, Forest,Agriculture, Women affairs, Social welfare, Fisheries, MI represenrative, women entrepreneurs, different NGO representatives, local stakeholders provided their valuable feedback on study.

PHALS DRR team reached Saint-martin Island for final selection & actual need assessment of Cyclone “Mocha” affected households with the list that provided by UNO office Teknaf.. Meantime one house inflamed and totally burned in Island.

On 6 June, 2023 PHALS team participated in NGO market Place organised by NGO platform, Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh.

Today 5th June, World environment day. Theme of the year is “Solutions to Plastic Polution” With the cooperation of Malteser int. Today PHALS celebrated the day in a befitting manner in Chopholdandi Union under Cox’s Bazar Sadar upazila followed by rally, Saplings distribution and dialogue with local stakeholders. Chairman of the Union Mr. Mujibur Rhaman graced the event as chief guest. PHALS Programme Coordinator Mr.AK Mong presented key note on Theme of the day.PHALS BMZ project Manager Mr.Kharul moderated the session.

PHALS DRR response team members visited PHALS working area

PHALS emergency team leader Ak.Mong in Chowpaldandi of Sadar Upazila for rapid need assessment after Cyclone Mocha. It is unofficially confirmed by UNO Sadar upazila that more than 3000 semi paka houses are partially damaged and roofs are completely damaged by wind assessment is going on.

From Contingency fund today PHALS emergency response team handed over 500(five hundred) dry food pack including baby milk, candles, lighter to UNO Sadar.. On behalf of UNO upazila official Mr.Sarwar received the goods for distribution to the evacuated people in shelter.

Today PHALS handed over 200 (two hundred) high power torch from it’s emergency stockpiling supported by Malteser int. to three Upazila Sadar,Ramu and Pekua for emergency pre disaster response to upcoming Super cyclone Mocha”.on behalf of Pekua ADC education received the stuff.

PHALS dedicated emergency response team working day & night since yesterday for preparing food package to support vulnerable people who are talking shelter in Cyclone shelter or still staying at home in vulnerable situation to save their life from upcoming Super cyclone “Mocha.” Suppose to landfall by tomorrow early morning.

Emergency DRR meeting held today with PHALS emergency response team at it’s office premises to face potential Cyclone “Mocha”. Where emphasised on organisational existing resources to address Pre,During and Post disaster issues. Instructions given to concern Dept. to be ready for Immediate resources allocation as per PHALS existing contingency plan as and when needed.Special meeting also organised today with volunteer in Ukhiya and Teknaf.

March 26, on the occasion of the Independence Day, the children of PHALS Tyama Primary School spent their time in various activities. Parade, discussion meeting, poetry recitation, essay competition, cultural programs including various events.

With the cooperation of Malteser international on 22 March 2023, PHALS distributed clothing kits among 100 recent fire affected Rohingya families (FDMN) in Camp 11.which contain following items : 1)Adult Male- 2 Lungi, 2 T-shirt, 1 Plastic/rubber slipper. 2)Adult Female – 2 Thami, 2 blouse, 1 Plastic/rubber slipper, 1 Orna/Scarf 3)Adolescent boy & girl – 1 lungi, 1 Thami, 2 T-shirt & 1 Plastic/rubber slipper. 4)Boy & Girl (6-11)- 2 elastic trouser, 2 T-shirt, 1 Plastic/rubber slipper. 5)Infant & Toddlers (1-5) – 2 elastic pants, 2 T-shirt, 1 Plastic/rubber slipper.

PHALS, Cox’s Bazar Sadar Dakshin PMkhali through the announcement of the last Jyoti, the affected families gave a monetary donation of 10 thousand taka, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mr. Md. The recipients of financial assistance are Ghafuriya, Ramzan Ali, Rahmat Ullah, Mohammad Shahjahan, Didar and Shaker.

Today is the International Mother Language Day. At 12:01am, flowers were placed at Cox’s Bazar Central Shaheed Minar by PHALS. Deep respect for the martyrs of the language movement of 52 was expressed by the PHALS. Abu Morshed Chowdhury, Executive Director of PHALS and other officers and employees were present at this time.

Annual Sports and Cultural activities 2023 of PHALS Tayama Primary School children ended today at it’s own playground followed by Prize giving ceremony.. PHALS founder & Executive Director ( Honorary) Mr.Abu Murshed Chowdhury graced the event as chief guest along with other EC members Ms.Monwar Parvin, Mr.Md.Iqbal Chowdhury and Sr.staff. Children and their parents passed a very joyfully time..

Today in a short notice DD Social Welfare Cox’s Bazar Mr.Hassan Masud along with Ass.Director Mr. Md.Abul Kasem visited PHALS vulnerable children support Centre, PHALS -Bani Academy.And have had dialogue with children.

Today with the support of Malteser intl. and ToGether CPU team PHALS organised Five days long training on P-FIM (First People Impact Method) for effective humanitarian response at Cox’s Bazar.Participants from LHPs,Consortium members working at Cox’s Bazar level namely Ananda,ASD, CDD,Cost Foundation, GK, Noboluk, ,Malteser International. FIVDB,.PHALS,WHS took part.

Under HARHC project, PHALS team distributed 39 device to Persons with Disabilities. Among them 26 in Whykong Union (Wheel Chair-17, Walking Stick-5, Hearing Aid-3, Crutches-1) and 13 in Palongkhali Union (Wheel Chair-3, Walking Stick-4, Hearing Aid-4, Crutches-1, White Cane-1). In presences of Concern UP Chairman and Members materials being distributed.. 17/11/22

28th November 2022, In presence of PHALS Honorary Executive Director PHALS team distributed livelihood support both cash and kind among 27 vulnerable people of Host community including persons with disabilities, ethnic community of Whykong Union of Teknaf upazila. Where local chairman Mr.Anwari of Whykong also present. The livelihood support was provided under PHALS-Brac partnership HARHC project.

Apart from Extra curriculum “Takewondo” event PHALS introduced a new event, Annual PHALS – Bani street Badminton tournament. Today PHALS – Bani Academy children became champion after defeating Cox’s international school and Bitushsaraf Jabbaria Academy in three events. We are really grateful to the guest of honour Volunteers from France & Canada, Mr.Ayazur Rahman, Advocate, Mr.Abdul kuddus Rana & Mr.Bijit for giving time and encourage our children at PHALS campus. It was really exciting event.

The children of PHALS-Bani Academy began a three-day special training workshop on behalf of the International Taekwondo Master Kurian Government Instructor Xuan Li Federation at the PHALS campus today to improve their taekwondo skills and verify their eligibility to receive belts through international standards.

World Peace Day 2022 is being celebrated on September 21 by the non-governmental voluntary organization PHALS. The theme was “End racism. Build peace.” Ukhia political Thaingkha practices patriotism through the principles of politics through PHALS Team BRAC and Australian AID. Discussion and debate after this rally. Thaingkhali High School teacher Kamruddin Mangal Joyer Birtak was present as the main chief of Ukhia Press Club Syed Muhammad Anwar was the moderator in the ceremony. Thaingkhali High School teacher Saidur Rahman was the moderator. Project Project Manager Md. Khairul Alam. The subject of this debate is ‘Apartheid-an obstacle to peace and harmony’. Ayesha Siddique Happy, Abdullah Al Fahim and Md Raihan of Thyngkhali High School Pakistan (team leader) were the speakers in the winning team. On September 28th, 2022, an agricultural fair was organized at Waikhong Union of Teknaf Upazila under the initiative of PHALS, a local voluntary organization. It showcases agricultural products produced by various local beneficiaries of PHALS. Principal Mr. Maulana Noor Ahmad Anwari Chairman, Whaikhong, Union Parishad was present as the president and opener of the fair. Mr. Zakirul Islam, Upazila Agriculture Officer, Teknaf Upazila was present as the chief guest in the program conducted by Pulse officer Khairul Islam. Present and spoke as special guests: Harunor Rashid President Maheshkhalia Para Youth Development Association, HoiKong, Teknaf, Taher Naeem, President, Teknaf Press Club, Md. Ashraful Islam, Senior District Manager, BRAC, Farooq Bhai Sarwar Quader Joy, Deputy Asst. Agriculture Officer, Hoikong, Teknaf Upazila, Md. Jalal Ahmad, UP Member, Hoikong, Teknaf, Mr. Rafiqul Islam, Head Teacher, Khanjarpara High School, Waikhong, Teknaf, , Mr. Alhaj Mostafa Kamal Chowdhury, Principal Alhaj Ali Achia School and College, Hoikang, Teknaf. It should be noted that the livelihood program of the underprivileged under Pulse Brac Partnership HAHRC project is being conducted in two unions in Ukhia and Teknaf upazilas. At the end of the fair, prizes were distributed among the participants.

On 19 March 2024 Local NGO PHALS organized Dialogue under ToGETHER project on “Grand Bargain Beyond 2023 & Developing in Country Localization Advocacy Canvas ” in consultations with LNGO,NNGO, INGO and other stakeholders in a local hotel conference hall. More than 62 NGO representatives actively participated and conveyed their valuable opinions in order to establish a effective In-Country Localization Advocacy Canvas with advocacy Demands. The Consultation event was Chaired by Honorary ED of PHALS Mr. Abu Murshed Chowdhury. Mr.Mizanur Rahman RRRC & Additional Secretary of Bangladesh govt.graced the event as chief guest. On the other hand Prominent Cultural Personality & CEO of Bita Mr.Shishir Dutta and Mr.Mujibul Islam Secretary Cox’s Bazar Press Club was present as Guest of Honour. Key note on Localization was presented by Mr .Bimol Dey Sarkar, CEO Mukti Cox’s Bazar. Apart from LNGO,NNGO representatives a number of INGO representatives from NRC, Oxfam, Malteser int. ILO and BANI Street were also present in the Dialogue. Which was ended followed by iftar.

Today PHALS Tayama primary school students formed school based “Eco Club” to raise awareness within their buddies and family about sustainable use of plastic… Initially ten members committee have been formed with the students of class three to class five.They are committed not to throw plastic garbage here & there.After use they’ll put in a certain Bin. They also promote after effect of single use plastic to environment .
